衛生局強調，乳房X光攝影是目前最具醫學實證，可以有效提早發現並改善預後的乳癌篩檢方法，它能偵測到乳房微小的鈣化點或腫瘤，發現無症狀的0期乳癌，且研究證實，50歲以上婦女定期接受乳房X光攝影檢查，可降低乳癌死亡率2-3成。統計資料顯示，藉由篩檢發現的乳癌個案有85%以上都是早期（0-2）的病變，經正規治療後，其5年存活率已高達9成以上。
